Urban Oasis

Embracing Nature Through Botanical Art: My Sanctuary Amidst the Concrete Jungle

As an artist living in the throes of urban life, surrounded by towering skyscrapers and the ceaseless hum of traffic, I often find myself yearning for a deeper connection with nature. Despite the relentless pace and artificial environments that define my everyday existence, I've discovered a profound way to reconnect with the natural world—through botanical art.

The Therapeutic Essence of Botanical Art

Botanical art is not merely a creative outlet; it’s my lifeline to serenity. Each time I pick up my brushes and palette, I am transported to a world where the delicate veins of leaves and the vibrant hues of petals come to life. The act of painting these natural wonders is a therapeutic escape, offering a refuge from the cacophony of the city and the stresses of daily life.

A Journey Back to My Roots

When I immerse myself in the intricate details of a plant, I feel a deep connection to the earth. Each brushstroke is a journey back to my roots, a reminder of the simplicity and beauty of the natural world that exists beyond the concrete walls and glass facades. This connection is essential for my well-being, grounding me and providing a sense of tranquility amidst the urban chaos.

Finding Inspiration in the Everyday

Inspiration for my botanical art is all around me, even in the most unexpected places. A leisurely walk through a local park, a visit to a botanical garden, or the simple sight of a potted plant on my windowsill can spark my creativity. These moments of inspiration remind me that nature is always within reach, waiting to be captured and celebrated through my art.

The Meditative Process of Creation

The process of creating botanical art is a meditative one. It demands patience, meticulous attention to detail, and a profound appreciation for the subject at hand. As I focus on capturing the essence of a plant, I enter a state of mindfulness, where all my worries and distractions melt away. This meditative quality of botanical art is the perfect antidote to the fast-paced demands of modern life.

Building My Personal Sanctuary

Through botanical art, I’ve created a personal sanctuary—a haven where I can retreat and find solace. Whether it’s a dedicated corner in my studio or a sketchbook filled with botanical illustrations, this sanctuary is a testament to my connection with nature. It serves as a constant reminder that amidst the artificial, I can always find my way back to the natural.

Sharing the Beauty of Nature

As an artist, one of the most rewarding aspects of botanical art is sharing the beauty of nature with others. My creations inspire friends, family, and even strangers to appreciate the intricate details and splendour of the natural world. By showcasing these wonders, I highlight the importance of preserving and cherishing our environment.

Conclusion

In a world dominated by artificial structures and relentless pursuits of success, botanical art offers a refreshing pause. It invites me to slow down, observe, and appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds us. Through the delicate strokes of my brushes, I reconnect with nature and find a sense of peace and fulfilment. So, I encourage you to pick up your brushes, step outside, and let the wonders of the botanical world inspire your next masterpiece. Amidst the concrete jungle, you'll discover that a sanctuary of nature is always within your reach.

Botanical: Nature's Frame

A Window to Nature: Exploring Botanical Art

As an artist, I find solace in the simplicity and beauty of nature. My latest piece, a botanical artwork featuring a window framed by lush greenery, is a reflection of this connection.

On a sunny afternoon, I set up my easel outdoors, ready to let the vibrant hues of nature inspire me. The window in this painting serves as a metaphorical and literal frame, capturing the essence of a serene moment where the inside meets the outside. It’s a scene that many of us experience daily but often overlook—the quiet beauty just outside our windows.

The process of creating this piece was both meditative and spontaneous. I started with thick, deliberate brush strokes, allowing the green foliage to take shape naturally. The different shades of green, from deep emerald to bright lime, create a sense of depth and life. Each leaf and vine intertwines, symbolizing the interconnectedness of nature.

The light streaming through the window adds a touch of warmth and contrast to the cool greens. Using shades of yellow and soft white, I aimed to capture the gentle glow of sunlight filtering through the leaves. This light is not just a physical element but also a representation of hope and clarity, illuminating the natural beauty that surrounds us.

For me, this painting is a reminder to pause and appreciate the small moments of tranquility in our hectic lives. The view through this window is a slice of serenity, a moment to breathe and reconnect with the natural world. It invites the viewer to look beyond the immediate, to see the beauty in the everyday.

I hope "A Window to Nature" brings you a sense of calm and a renewed appreciation for the simple, yet profound, beauty that nature offers. As you gaze through this painted window, may you find a moment of peace and inspiration, just as I did while creating it.

Coastal Serenity

Embracing Positivity: An Artist’s Haven

After a hectic day, there's nothing quite like the solace of sitting down with my brushes and letting the colours flow onto the paper. My latest piece is a testament to this therapeutic process—a spontaneous creation born from thick brush strokes and an unplanned journey of colour.

This artwork, depicting a tranquil seaside scene, was my escape. Without overthinking the outcome, I allowed my intuition to guide each stroke. The ocean, painted in vibrant blues, represents my favourite colour and serves as a symbol of depth and calm. The waves crash gently against the shore, their movement captured in the fluidity of the paint.

The inclusion of yellow and white hues highlights the positivity and light I’ve been focusing on over the past few months. These color\us shine brightly in the sky, blending seamlessly into the serene backdrop of palm trees and sandy shores. The yellow represents hope and renewal, while the white adds a touch of purity and clarity.

Creating this piece was not just an act of painting but an act of mindfulness. Each brushstroke was a moment of relaxation and reflection, allowing me to unwind and express my inner landscape. The scene itself, with its calm waters and vibrant sky, became a visual representation of the peace I sought and found through art.

As an artist, this painting is more than just a visual escape; it’s a manifestation of the balance between chaos and tranquillity in my life. It reminds me—and hopefully those who view it—of the beauty in taking a moment to breathe, to create, and to embrace the positivity that life has to offer.

I titled this piece “Waves of Positivity,” as it encapsulates the serene yet powerful energy of the ocean and the optimistic outlook I've cultivated. I hope this artwork brings a sense of calm and inspiration to everyone who encounters it, just as creating it did for me.

Reflections of Serenity

Embracing the Sunset: An Artist's Journey

Art has always been my language, a way to translate the emotions and scenes that words often fail to capture. My latest piece, a vibrant portrayal of a sunset, is a testament to this.

As I sat with my watercolor palette under the open sky, I was inspired by the beauty of nature's transitions. The sunset, a daily yet profoundly unique spectacle, served as my muse. I wanted to capture not just the visual essence of the scene but also the feeling it evoked—the calm, the reflection, and the vibrant energy.

The composition of this piece is a harmonious blend of vivid colors and serene undertones. The bold oranges and pinks of the sky merge with the calm blues of the water, creating a striking contrast that draws the eye. The golden hues interspersed throughout the painting reflect the sun’s final, gentle embrace before it disappears behind the mountains.

The use of large brushes allowed me to blend the colors seamlessly, mirroring the natural gradients of the sky. The expansive strokes create a sense of movement, as if the scene is alive and breathing. Each brushstroke is intentional, representing the fleeting moments of the sunset that I wished to eternalize on paper.

As an artist, this piece is particularly special to me. It is a reminder of the beauty that exists in transitions and the colors that life offers. It’s a colorful sunset near the mountains and water, with the sky’s reflection painting a picture of tranquility and vibrance. This artwork is more than just a visual representation; it is a reflection of my artistic journey and the emotions intertwined with it.

I hope this piece brings to the viewer a sense of peace and inspiration, just as the sunset did for me. Through this painting, I invite you to pause, reflect, and appreciate the simple yet profound beauty of nature's daily masterpiece.

The Birth of Aakritices: My Journey as a Young Entrepreneur and Artist

In 2013, driven by a passion for creativity and a desire to share my art with the world, I founded Aakritices. At just 18 years old, I embarked on this venture with the dream of turning my artistic passion into a business. Little did I know, this small-scale business would lay the foundation for my entrepreneurial journey and shape me into the person I am today.

The Genesis of Aakritices

Art has always been a significant part of my life. From a young age, I found joy in painting, drawing, and crafting. As a college student, I decided to take a leap of faith and transform my hobby into a business. The name "Aakritices" came from two words: "Aakriti," meaning shape or form in Hindi, and "interstices," which refers to intervening spaces. While it might sound a bit whimsical now, back then it perfectly encapsulated what the business meant to me. Aakritices was my way of filling the empty spaces in my day with something fulfilling and meaningful.

Juggling Studies and Business

Balancing Aakritices with my Chartered Accountancy (CA) studies and articleship was no small feat. The rigorous demands of my academic pursuits often left me with little time and energy to focus on growing my business. However, the drive to succeed and the joy I derived from creating art kept me going. Each painting, greeting card, scrapbook, and piece of paper craft was a labor of love, reflecting my dedication and passion.

Exhibitions and Workshops: Spreading Joy Through Art

One of the most fulfilling aspects of running Aakritices was the opportunity to connect with people through my art. I participated in various exhibitions, showcasing my paintings and handcrafted items. These events not only provided a platform to sell my creations but also allowed me to engage with art enthusiasts and receive valuable feedback.

In addition to exhibitions, I conducted art workshops for children. Teaching young minds and inspiring them to explore their creativity was an incredibly rewarding experience. Through these workshops, I realized the power of art to bring joy and foster connections among people. This realization motivated me to create unique, personalized gifts that made people feel special. Whether it was a handcrafted greeting card or a custom scrapbook, each creation was designed with love and thoughtfulness.

Lessons Learned and Seeds of Entrepreneurship

Running Aakritices was more than just a business endeavor; it was a profound learning experience. It taught me the importance of perseverance, creativity, and time management. Despite the challenges of managing my studies and business simultaneously, I gained invaluable skills that have been instrumental in my personal and professional growth.

Aakritices was the seed of my entrepreneurial journey. It ignited a passion for creating and innovating that continues to drive me today. Through this venture, I discovered my capabilities and learned to navigate the complexities of running a business. The experiences and lessons from Aakritices have been the cornerstone of my development as an entrepreneur.

Reflecting on the Journey

Looking back, I am grateful for the journey that Aakritices has taken me on. It was a time of exploration, creativity, and growth. The challenges I faced and the achievements I celebrated have all contributed to shaping the person I am today. While I had to pause my business to focus on my CA studies, the spirit of Aakritices lives on in my heart.

Today, as I continue to pursue my professional goals, I carry with me the passion and entrepreneurial spirit that Aakritices instilled in me. The journey of Aakritices is a testament to the power of following one's passion and the incredible growth that comes from embracing challenges and opportunities.

In conclusion, Aakritices was not just a business; it was a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. It allowed me to explore my creative potential, connect with people, and lay the foundation for my future endeavors. I am proud of what I achieved with Aakritices and excited for the future, knowing that the lessons and experiences from this venture will continue to guide and inspire me.

How to Successfully Manage a Project: A Guide to Effective Multitasking

One of the most common questions I've encountered in interviews is, "How do you manage your day-to-day tasks?" or "How do you handle multiple tasks/multitasking?" As we advance in our careers, we increasingly take on managerial responsibilities in addition to our execution tasks. This shift can be daunting, but with the right strategies, it becomes manageable and even rewarding.

In my current role, my responsibilities include daily audit tasks, leading standups, coordinating with team members, managing the USI team (Deloitte's support team in India), client communication, coaching juniors, and addressing their queries. Managing all of this might sound overwhelming, but with a structured approach, it’s entirely feasible.

Here’s how I manage my projects successfully:

1. Observe and Learn from Seniors

To develop effective management skills, I began by observing how my seniors and managers handled their tasks. By noting their strategies and approaches, I started incorporating these practices into my daily routine. This gradual application of learned skills made the transition smoother and more natural.

2. Utilize a Tracker

The backbone of my project management approach is the use of a tracker. This is something we all prepare, but updating it daily and using it effectively is key. A tracker helps in keeping an eye on all tasks, deadlines, and progress, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks. It's a simple yet powerful tool to maintain organization and accountability.

3. Daily Standups and Regular Updates

Conducting daily standups and providing regular updates are crucial. These meetings help in aligning the team, discussing progress, and identifying any blockers early on. This practice ensures that everyone is on the same page and working towards common goals.

4. Prioritize Calls Over Emails/Chats for Important Discussions

When it comes to discussing critical matters, I prefer calls over emails or chats. Direct communication helps in quickly resolving issues, clarifying doubts, and making decisions more efficiently. It reduces the back-and-forth that often occurs with written communication.

5. Identify and Resolve Blockers

Proactively identifying potential blockers and taking the initiative to resolve them is essential. By addressing issues before they escalate, you can maintain project momentum and avoid delays.

6. Anticipate Team Needs

Thinking ahead about what your team might need assistance with is a proactive approach that pays off. By anticipating challenges and providing the necessary support or resources in advance, you can ensure smoother project execution.

7. Provide Proper Guidance

Offering clear and consistent guidance throughout the project is vital. This not only helps in achieving deadlines but also empowers your team members to perform their best. Coaching juniors and addressing their queries promptly fosters a collaborative and productive work environment.

8. Continuous Improvement

Constantly seek feedback and reflect on your management practices. What worked well? What could be improved? Learning and adapting are continuous processes that help you become a more effective project manager.

Conclusion:

Managing multiple tasks and projects successfully is a skill that can be developed with observation, structured planning, and proactive communication. By utilizing tools like trackers, conducting regular standups, prioritizing direct communication, and providing proper guidance, you can handle complex projects with confidence. Remember, the key to effective multitasking and project management lies in continuous learning and adaptation.

Key Takeaways:

- Observe and learn from experienced colleagues.

- Utilize and update a tracker daily.

- Conduct regular standups and provide updates.

- Prioritize calls for important discussions.

- Identify and resolve blockers proactively.

- Anticipate and address team needs.

- Provide clear and consistent guidance.

- Embrace continuous improvement.

By following these strategies, you can navigate the complexities of project management and achieve your goals efficiently.

Seizing Opportunities: My Journey with Deloitte’s Centre of Excellence

Last year, I embarked on an exciting journey by joining Deloitte, and it’s been a period of tremendous growth and learning for me. One experience, in particular, stands out as a testament to the importance of taking chances and believing in oneself.

Unaware of the exact procedures, I applied for a secondment through an internal departmental exchange email I received. This was for a position in the Centre of Excellence, focused on auditing share-based payments and EPS for audit clients. Initially, I applied on a whim without fully considering the steps involved. To my surprise, I received an interview call shortly after. This moment of realization hit me: whenever I approach interviews without the pressure of expectation, I tend to perform my best.

During the interview, the senior manager mentioned that my chances were slim due to my short tenure at Deloitte. Despite this, I approached the interview with full confidence. Internally, I was uncertain if this was the right opportunity for me. Seeking advice from my PEL, I was encouraged to pursue it if selected, albeit with the understanding that the departmental approval process would be rigorous.

The approval journey was indeed challenging. It involved discussions with various managers on the jobs I was allocated to and coordinating with allocation managers. I often wondered how I would manage responsibilities to both my current department and the new one. I addressed these concerns politely with the managers and left the outcome to time and luck.

A few days later, I received an email confirming my selection. This news brought a mix of happiness and confusion due to the complex approval process ahead. Nonetheless, I embraced the challenge and worked with two clients in this new department for several months. The learning curve was steep, but managing work as an expert, engaging with clients, valuation specialists, and team members, and meeting deadlines was incredibly fulfilling. The positive feedback I received underscored my achievements.

Reflecting on this experience, I’ve distilled several key lessons:

1. Take chances: Paths will create themselves.

2. Trust yourself: Believe in your abilities.

3. Keep learning: Continuous improvement is essential.

4. Communication is key: Effective communication is vital in the corporate world.

5. Ask questions early: Avoid repeated queries by understanding thoroughly initially.

6. Seize opportunities: Grab them as they come.

7. Embrace confusion: Sometimes, it can be a blessing in disguise.

8. Value feedback: It can work wonders, especially with supportive seniors.

This journey taught me the importance of stepping out of my comfort zone and embracing new opportunities. It reaffirmed that with confidence, clear communication, and continuous learning, one can navigate through complexities and achieve remarkable outcomes.

Carefully Considered Criteria: Preparing to Sponsor Mahi's Education

Before embarking on the journey of sponsoring Mahi's education, I carefully considered several key points to ensure her long-term success and well-being. Here's a glimpse into the thought process behind this meaningful endeavor:

  1. Educational Path: Mahi will have the opportunity to attend an English medium school up to the 12th grade. Beyond that, she will have the freedom to choose her further education path, whether it's engineering, commerce, medical, or any other course. This ensures that Mahi has the flexibility to pursue her passions and interests.

  2. Purpose of Scholarship: The primary goal of sponsoring Mahi's education is to empower her to become independent and educated, capable of earning a decent income throughout her life. By investing in her education, we aim to provide her with the tools and opportunities she needs to succeed in life.

  3. No Pressure for Marriage: Mahi's family is fully committed to ensuring that there is no pressure on her to marry until she completes her education. This commitment reflects our belief in the importance of allowing Mahi to focus on her studies and personal development without external pressures.

  4. Parental Support: Mahi will receive unwavering support from her parents, who will assist her in various ways, including transportation to and from school, creating a positive environment for her studies, and motivating her to excel in her endeavors. This support system is crucial for Mahi's success and well-being.

  5. Communication of Household Issues: Mahi's parents will keep us informed about any household issues that may arise, such as financial difficulties or health concerns. This open line of communication ensures that we can provide additional assistance or support whenever needed.

  6. Financial Management: Mahi will have a separate bank account dedicated to her educational funds, with a fixed monthly transfer for her school fees. Any withdrawals other than school fees will be communicated and documented, ensuring transparency and accountability.

  7. Savings and Investments: As funds accumulate, we will explore options such as fixed deposits (FDs) to generate interest income for Mahi's future. Additionally, Mahi's parents are encouraged to start saving a nominal amount each month for their own well-being, although this is optional.

In conclusion, this note outlines our commitment to Mahi's education and well-being, emphasizing transparency, support, and long-term sustainability. By investing in Mahi's future, we hope to empower her to achieve her dreams and create a brighter tomorrow for herself and her community.

I firmly believe that parents wield a profound influence on shaping a child's education, mindset, and overall development. Recognizing the pivotal role parents play in a child's life, I have meticulously evaluated several key factors to ensure genuine parental engagement and commitment. These considerations are essential to laying a strong foundation for Mahi's educational journey and fostering an environment conducive to her growth and success.

Embracing Opportunity: My Journey of Sponsoring a Child's Education

Today, as I reflect on my journey, I am filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the opportunity I've been blessed with - the chance to sponsor a child's education. This journey began long ago, rooted in my childhood desire to make a difference in the world and fueled by my passion for working with NGOs and contributing to society.

From a young age, the plight of underprivileged children and stray dogs tugged at my heartstrings. I was drawn to their innocence, resilience, and the stark con
trast between their lives and the luxuries I often took for granted. My journey officially began during my college days when I volunteered with NGOs through NSS, reveling in the joy of being with children, dancing with them, and teaching them. It was a truly wholesome experience that left an indelible mark on my soul.

Later, during my years of auditing with EY India, I had the privilege of auditing NGOs like the Par dada Par dadai education society. Witnessing firsthand the noble work these organizations do for society, particularly hearing the pride in their voices as they spoke of their children pursuing higher studies, filled me with a sense of purpose and pride.

Simultaneously, I became involved with a new NGO started by the incredibly kind Shagun and his friends, teaching children art and imparting business skills. Despite my desire to offer financial support, I hesitated, feeling uncertain about my ability to make a meaningful impact.

But this April, everything changed. A sudden urge to return to India coincided with my grandfather's milestone birthday, and I knew I wanted to do something extraordinary. Meeting with Ritu Anty, I connected with several children, each brimming with dreams and aspirations. Amidst the mix of emotions, I met Mahi, a shy, sweet girl from the 6th grade, whose radiant spirit captured my heart.

We discussed her needs, aspirations, and plans for the future, and my heart swelled with joy as I witnessed the unwavering support of her parents. The day I last saw her before leaving for London, we celebrated her birthday, her home filled with warmth and hospitality. In that moment, I knew I had found my purpose - Mahi had become my child, and I was determined to see her thrive.

As I embark on this journey of sponsorship, I am filled with a sense of responsibility and gratitude. Mahi isn't just a student I'm sponsoring—she's family. I dream of her achieving every opportunity, every success. I feel immensely blessed to be a part of her journey, and I look forward to the incredible impact she will undoubtedly have on the world.

In closing, I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported me on this journey. Your encouragement, love, and belief in the power of education have been invaluable. Together, we can make a difference—one child at a time.

The Beauty of Fluidity: A Journey Through Color
